SUMMARY:Add Variety to your Native Garden
DESCRIPTION:Add Variety to your Native Garden: Try some Lesser Known Species\nwith Ben Pick \nWednesday\, July 30 |  10 am – 12 pm \nBREG – Elective \nREGISTER HERE \nLesser known doesn’t mean less valuable. This class will go over some underused native plants that merit more attention from gardeners and a spot in our gardens. We will look at individual plant profiles and how and where to use them in the landscape. We will also discuss different local sources for these plants. \nBen Pick\, a resident of Asheville\, grew up in the mountains of Western North Carolina which certainly contributed to his love of the outdoors and the natural world from a young age. He started working in a local garden center in his early teens and then moved to landscape work during summers through high school. After obtaining a horticulture degree from NC State University\, he spent the next 10 years working in a variety of horticulture jobs\, including positions in world-class gardens across the US and abroad\, learning a wide range of gardening skills and practices. He now uses this knowledge locally at his nursery and in classes he teaches. \n\nMembers: Remember to enter your promo code upon checkout to receive your 10% member discount! SUMMARY:Streams & Creeks of the Arboretum
DESCRIPTION:Streams & Creeks of the Arboretum\nwith Lauren Lampley \nON-SITE  |  Saturday\, January 18  |  1 – 4 pm \nBlue Ridge Naturalist – Elective \n  \nJoin Lauren on an exploration of the NC Arboretum’s streams and creeks to learn about how they play an important role in our park’s ecology. We will take the opportunity to look at maps of how the rivers of our region shaped the mountains and valleys before going out into the field to follow a stream until it reaches the French Broad River. \nThis program takes place in the classroom and outdoors. Please come prepared to walk on uneven terrain and some exploration off trail. Wear sturdy shoes/boots and dress appropriately for the weather. \nLauren Lampley began her career at Grandfather Mountain Stewardship Foundation as a Park Naturalist which solidified Lauren’s interests in ecology and a passion for teaching others. She has led walks and hikes in a variety of subjects from Geology to Birding and especially enjoys learning and teaching about our local ecology. She currently works at the NC Arboretum in the Adult Education Department and manages the Blue Ridge Naturalist Certificate of Merit. \n\nMembers: Remember to enter your promo code upon checkout to receive your 10% member discount!
