SUMMARY:River Systems of the Blue Ridge
DESCRIPTION:River Systems of the Blue Ridge\nWith Anton DuMars \nFriday\, September 5  |  12 – 4pm \nBRN – Core  |  BREG – Elective \nREGISTER HERE \nWater is essential to life but is also a powerful agent of change. Rivers\, through both daily processes and catastrophic floods\, shape Earth’s surface through erosion and sediment transport. In River Systems of the Blue Ridge\, we will investigate how the Broad River changes character and shapes the landscape along its course from the headwaters\, through the Piedmont\, and onto the Atlantic Ocean. \nAnton DuMars\, a resident of Black Mountain\, NC\, is an adjunct professor at the College of Charleston. His geological interests include fluvial\, deltaic\, and coastal processes. Ideally\, he’s spending time on a hiking trail or aboard his sailboat. \n\nMembers: Remember to enter your promo code upon checkout to receive your 10% member discount! SUMMARY:Project WET
DESCRIPTION:Project WET: Climate\, Water\, and Resilience\nWith Michelle Pearce \nSaturday\, August 2  |  9:30 – 3:30pm \nNCEE Criteria I \nREGISTER HERE \nClimate\, Water and Resilience helps educators teach middle and high school students about climate and climate change using interactive\, objective\, science-based activities that students will enjoy. Unlike other Project WET publications\, the activities in this guide are meant to be taught in sequential order. Each lesson is a stand-alone activity and can be taught modularly; however\, information from the first activity will help students to understand the second activity\, which will then help them to understand the third activity\, and so on. Activities include topics like weather versus climate\, ocean acidification\, drought and flood impacts on soil moisture\, and water management considerations as weather events intensify. This workshop counts as 6 hours of Criteria I credit for EE Certificate. \nThis program takes place in the classroom and outdoors. Please come prepared to walk on gentle\, yet uneven terrain\, and dress appropriately for the weather. \nMichelle Pierce has worked in environmental Education since 2007. It was actually her first job right out of college\, and she fell in love with it! Michelle has been a seasonal staff\, Summer camp staff\, county parks staff\, a state employee\, an adjunct professor\, and now is currently serving as the Programming Lead for the Environmental Educators of North Carolina. She has a Bachelor’s degree in Biology with an emphasis in life science\, and a Masters of Arts in Education with an emphasis in Science Education. She’s been a Project Wet facilitator since 2010 and currently resides in Candler with her 9-year-old son and her ancient leopard gecko. \n\nMembers: Remember to enter your promo code upon checkout to receive your 10% member discount!
