Permaculture is a design approach that works with nature rather than against it, creating landscapes that are productive, resilient, and regenerative. In this introductory workshop, participants will learn the foundational ethics and principles of permaculture and discover how thoughtful design can reduce maintenance, conserve resources, improve biodiversity, and create beautiful, functional outdoor spaces.
Through discussion, examples, and hands-on exercises, attendees will explore how to observe natural patterns, understand site conditions, and apply simple design strategies to gardens, homesteads, and residential landscapes. Whether you are a homeowner, gardener, designer, or simply curious about sustainable living, this class provides practical tools for creating landscapes that thrive over time.
Jennifer Verprauskus is a North Carolina Licensed Landscape Architect and a Permaculture Design Certificate Holder. She studied Landscape Architecture at the University of Massachusetts & Cal Poly. Since graduating, she has traveled the world to help people grow trees and their own food. She is the founder of both UpBeet Landscapes and BareRoot Designs, PLLC.
